How to Optimize Cloud Spend with

The focus on how to optimize cloud spend is now as relentless as the initial surge was to migrate workloads from ‘on-prem’ to public cloud. A lot of this focus, and resultant discussions, were in regards to  options related to the use of Reserved Instances (RI’s), Spot Instances,or other pre-pay options. The pay-up-front discount plan makes sense  when you have some degree of visibility on future needs, and when there is no ‘turn-if-off’ option, which we here at ParkMyCloud call “parking”.

Reduce RDS Costs with

Thanks to the ability to shut down instances with a start/stop scheduler, users of Amazon’s database service can finally save time and reduce RDS costs. Until June 2017, the only way to accomplish this feat was by copying and deleting instances, running the risk of losing transaction logs and automatic backups. While Amazon’s development of the start/stop scheduler is useful and provides a level of cost savings, it also comes with issues of its own.

Amazon’s EC2 Scheduler - How Does it Compare with ?

Amazon recently announced updates to their EC2 scheduler, responding to the already-answered question: “How do I automatically start and stop my Amazon EC2 instances?” Been there, done that. ParkMyCloud has been scheduling instances and saving our customers 65% or more on their monthly cloud bills from Amazon, Azure, and Google since 2015. It looks like Amazon is stepping up to the plate with their EC2 scheduler, but are they?

The Power of Oatmeal

A Natural Treatment for Skin Ailments (and more?) It’s no secret that oatmeal is good for the skin. Most of us remember contracting the chickenpox virus as a child, and the benefits of an oatmeal bath, which is still a common remedy for soothing extensive skin itchiness and irritation. While oatmeal has already been recognized as a natural topical treatment for dry skin, bug bites, and more, recent studies indicate that oatmeal has even greater healing power than we thought previously.
